Can Blackberry 6 save RIM?
Posted by Reggie James | Filed under mobile
With the likes of iPhone and Google’s Android platform slowly entering the corporate market, it seems that Research in Motion (RIM), the Canadian company that owns the Blackberry device has one last shot at the corporate space when it releases version 6 of its operating system. The challenge for blackberry as recently highlighted by Reuters ‘Breaking Views’ and published in The New York Times, is that 80% of the Fortune 100 companies are testing or implementing iPhone. This could be a disaster for RIM who for as long as anyone can remember was the defacto weapon of choice for the corporate warrior.
So what’s changed?
How did these 2 operating systems creep into the business domain and start kicking at Blackberry’s heels. More importantly, why has Blackberry allowed this to happen when the demand for such devices are so high? Looking at the leaked promotional video, it seems that once again they have missed a trick using a generic and broad track by the Black Eyed Peas with a ‘too’ corporate feel to its visual. Make your own mind up but will British bank Standard Chartered recent announcement that it is migrating its workforce from BlackBerrys to iPhones be the beginning of an exodus?
